Floorball is a friendly, safe and inexpensive modern type of soft hockey, tackling and interference is not allowed. Floorball is very inclusive and flexible, ideal for coed and mixed age groups. It is played with a light weight carbon fiber stick, a plastic ball and gym shoes. Mostly played for fun and recreation but there are national leagues, World championships and floorball is part of the World games (Birmingham, Alabama 2021), special Olympics and an Exhibition sport in the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

The session will present a sport that in northern Europe, primarily the Scandinavian countries, has grown from nothing to become one of the largest teamsports in only 30 years. In Sweden Floorball is the second largest team sport after soccer when measured by licensed players, and by far the largest team sport when measured by recreational players.

The presentation will cover the following topics:

  • What is the background and key drivers to the development of Floorball
  • How is Floorball played, officially and for recreation
  • What are the risks and main rules
  • What are the physical and mental benefits
  • How well does Floorball fit in to PE classes
  • How to get started
  • How to plan lessons

And we will of course have some great fun and play Floorball !
